Welcome to another Art with Heart Team blog hop where we are focusing on fancy folds. You will find loads of creative inspiration tonight, showcasing different folding techniques and projects. Don’t be afraid of trying some Fancy Fold cards; they may look intimidating, but in fact, they are not that difficult to create.

I’m sharing two fancy fold cards today and I seem to be on a bit of a run with Christmas cards, so I ran with it! 😉 I’ll also give a brief description on how I made them, I hope it makes sense 😀

My first card today, came out a little differently than expected, but I’m still happy with the result. This is a simple fancy fold card, and to be honest I think I’m cheating calling it a fancy fold.. hehe. The front of the card is actually just trimmed down and then I added the main embellishment to the bottom of this piece leaving some over hang.

After I trimmed the front down, I cut a piece of DSP from the Merry Little Christmas DSP and a mat in Soft suede. I then diecut a circle of the same DSP and mounted that on a circle of Soft Suede, I also took the time to match the pattern of both pieces of DSP so they went in the same direction. On a piece of Crumb Cake I stamped the image from Merry Little Labels in Soft Suede and then punched it out with the Everyday Label Punch. I then punched out two more pieces of the same punch in Soft Suede and cut these in half so I could layer them underneath the stamped piece, one punched piece vertical and the other horizontal. I then mounted this embellishment on the circle diecuts using Dimensionals.

The inside of the card I used the Merry Mistletoe Stamp Set. I stamped the garland in Old Olive (second generation stamping, by stamping the first image on a scrap piece of paper and then without re-inking the stamp I stamped it on to the Whisper White piece). I used the garland images to make a border.

Down the bottom of this piece I stamped the “Christmas Wishes” in Soft Suede down the bottom, so it could also be seen at the front of the card.

For my next card I used the Santa Paws stamp set, how could anyone resist those singing cats!

Fancy Folds AWHT 5For this card I did one of my favourite Fancy Folds: The Double-Z Fold. I’ve made a few of these recently, because they are so easy but effective! the reason it is called a Double-Z Fold is because the folds look like a capital Z.

I have been using my blender pen a fair amount this week with both pencils and inks, but I wanted to try something new. I used the Wink of Stella brush, instead of the blender pen and it is SO PRETTY and so glittery (although not easy to capture in a photo)!! Obviously I will be doing this technique again!

Fancy Folds AWHT 8

To make this card I made the larger Z piece in Basic Black and the smaller mount in Smoky Slate. I then stamped on this smaller piece using the Sheet Music Background Stamp in Smoky Slate.

I stamped the image of the choristers in Basic Black and die-cut it with the Stitched Shape Framelits. Using a variety of ink pads and my Wink of Stella pen I coloured in the image and when finished I mounted it on a circle diecut from the Layering circle framelits in Basic Black. I mounted this piece using Dimensionals, and placed it over a banner of Silver Glimmer paper, punched with the Triple Banner Punch.

I then stamped “Here comes Santa Paws!” and die cut it with the stitched framelits. Mounting it again on a Basic Black die cut circle. To add a bit of interest I also put two strips of Silver Glimmer Paper on this piece.

I used the back as the main space for writing a message. To do this I made a mount in Smoky Slate and a piece in Whisper White. I stamped one of the choristers in the corner and coloured him in as before. I added another piece of Silver Glimmer paper to finish it off.

I hope you liked the cards today! Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the very talented, Rachel Woollard. I can’t wait to see what she has made this month!art with heart Next Blog

  1. I love both of your cards Andrea. I love how you extended the Everyday Label punch to attach your greeting onto your first card – very clever. Your second card is stunning as is your colouring of the cat carollers. A great job on both cards! 🙂
